Post  Muhammed Islamiyah Tue Nov 28, 2023 8:19 am

yes absolutely as far as i know Quran is the only religious book which encourages you to think and there are several verses in the quran in which Allah (SWT) order readers to think and analyze the things around us because there are many i should mention some.of them:

1- Say, “Observe what is in the heavens and earth.” But of no avail will be signs or warners to a people who do not believe (10:101)

2- Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth; the alternation of the day and the night; the ships that sail the sea for the benefit of humanity; the rain sent down by Allah from the skies, reviving the earth after its death; the scattering of all kinds of creatures throughout; the shifting of the winds; and the clouds drifting between the heavens and the earth—˹in all of this˺ are surely signs for people of understanding. (02:164)

3- And from the fruits of the palm trees and grapevines you take intoxicant and good provision.1 Indeed in that is a sign for a people who reason. (16:67)

4- And [in] the alternation of night and day and [in] what Allah sends down from the sky of provision and gives life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness and [in His] directing of the winds are signs for a people who reason. (45:05)

Allah subhanahu watahala says that in quran.
And one of his sings is that he created for you spoases from among yourselves so that you may find comfort in them And he has place between you compassion and mercy surely in this are sings for people who reflect
(If you want to be a jurists you must be thinking well before you composed anything)

Allah say in Quran 21:7فاسالوا أهل الذكر إن كنتم لا تعلمون،ask those that have wisdom and knowledge, ask them what you don't know or understand.why did Allah say this, it's because,he gave some of us pure wisdom in somethings,كما Quran 2:269قال الله تعالى في القرءان،وما يذكّر إلاّ أولو الألباب And what can they remember or what can they think unless those that we gave power of wisdom,Allah knows he gave some people power to use their brain 🧠
for instance bakery 🥯,how to do bread or cement, does Quran mentioned it or did we see any Hadith that teach us how to do those things, probably not,it was human wisdom ,so this makes it clear that Allah subhaanahu watahaala permit us to use our intellectual reason to somethings Allah say in Quran 3:191 ويتفكرون في خلق السماوات والأرض،ربنا ما خلقت هذا باطلا،

Though Allah grant wisdom to whoever he wish, Quran 3:191يؤتي الحكمة من يشاءbut the word of hikmah that Allah mentioned did clearify that human can use their knowledge or wisdom on some things that will not make him go astray,, not like some فيلسوفthat will be investigated on What is beyond their capacity.

Indeed Quran advices us to use our rational thinking for reasonable things not for worshipping Allah alone either, brain act faster than speaking, Quran Al-Ankabut (29:20) says Travel through the land and observe how he began creation. Then Allah will produce the final creation. Indeed Allah, over all things, is competent. Quran 2: 164 it says indeed in creating of heaven and earth and the alternation of the night and the day,and in the great ship which sail through the sea with that which benefits people....are signs for those of understanding. These are verses that speak about the rational thinking and intellectual reasoning in the Quran.

I support the first question
Observe what is in the heavens and earth. But of no avail will be signs or warners to a people who do not believe

(2:164)
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth; the variance of the day and the night; the ships that sail the sea with what benefits the people; the rain sent down by God from the sky reviving the earth after its death then dispersed in it of every moving creature; the directing of the winds and the clouds controlled between the heaven and the earth—are surely signs for people who reason.”

Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakathu
Qur'an repeatedly invite us to think about the signs of Allah .
Qur'an reference to thinking and the exercise of intellect occur in conjunction with basically five major themselves,1)Believe in ones of Allah (At Tawhid) فعرفوني قبل ان تعبدوني ومن لم يعرفوني فكيف تعبدوني , Allah swt said know (think about) me before you will worship me,if you don't know (think about) me how will you be worshipping me,2) Reflection (At tadabbur) in the Qur'an;man and universe; historical precedent and thinking itself.
Qur'an SWT want us to on his word in the Qur'an (if Allah want to say something he will say it small and he's expecting us to think about it
But what we should not do is overthinking because Allah says in the Qur'an ;stop over thinking,Stop complaining،Stop stressing your self too much; instead of you should trust me
Qur'an says again ; O you who believe avoid (negative) assumption indeed some assumption is sin .
According to Qur'an the aim of good thinking is to achieve wisdom.
That's what I can say about thinking.
Thanks

Post  Musa_Basiru Wed Nov 29, 2023 11:39 am

All extol and adoration belong to the creator of heaven and Earth
Concerning the question asked by our Amiable Professor lecturer in the person of Sheik Ishiaq Soliu does the Quran invite us to think and use our intellectual reasoning to think?
From my own perspective yes the Quran Allows human beings to use their intellectual thinking because the Quran is full of Ayat which encourages us to do such and in that Ayat Allah made some emphases that made us to know that using of intellectual thinking is not going to warrant Crime for those who might do such
Even there is a certain Ayat that gives the full-back up to human reasoning
(Suratul Anfal 8:22) “Indeed the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allah are the deaf and dumb who do not reason’’

Here are the Ayat where Allah brought and give room for intellectual thinking
(Suratul Ghosiyah Quran 88 verse 17-20) will they not then consider the camels how they are created, and the heavens, how it was Raised high and the mountains how they were fixed. And the earth how it was spread..
Also in suratul baqorah (Quran 2:164) Allah says indeed in the creation of the heavens and Earth and the day are sign for those of understanding. This verse urges us to reflect upon the sign of creation and use our intellect to comprehend the wisdom behind Them
Which some of ayat writing here I hope am able to back my envidences with whats expected from us

Post  Ismaeel Wed Nov 29, 2023 11:39 am

Asalam alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakaaaatu
I will also go for no 2
Because Allah subhanahu watahalah said
Because if we think by our intellectual reasoning we might go good an we might think the other way
By this we don't have to think by our own reasoning we have to follow what the prophet has brought to us and not use our own intellectual reasoning

Does the Quran invite us to think and use our intellectual reasoning to think?

The Quran invite us to think and use our intellectual reasoning to think especially to about the creator of Allah, because Allah also invited us in Quran He said Say[O Muhammad], "Travel though the land and observe how He began creation.
Then Allah will produce the final creation indeed Allah, over all things, is competent".
There was certainly in their stories a lesson for these of understanding.
Never was the Quran a narration invented, but a com formation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of all things and guidance and mercy for a people who believe.

Quran 34 verse 46 also said :
Say "I only advise you of one [thing] that you stand for Allah,[seeking trugh] inp pairs and individually, and then give thought" there is not in your comparion any madness. He is only a Warner to you before a severe punishment.

The Qur'an is the main reference and source of knowledge for Muslims. It logically follows that understanding the concept of thinking should also be referred to the Qur'an. Even though the word 'intellect' is mentioned 49 times in the Qur'an, and there are hundreds of verses that urge Muslims to think, the theory of thinking from the Qur'anic perspective has not been extensively explored to guide Muslim educators, curriculum designers and developers. Hence, this paper attempts to explore the concept of good thinking from the Qur'anic perspective. It extensively examines verses of the Qur'an pertaining to the intellect and thinking to come up with a theory of good thinking. From the analysis of the relevant Qur'anic verses, the research found that the intellect is capable of rational and spiritual cognition as a result of applying critical, creative, ethical and spiritual thinking. Therefore, the research posits that good thinking from the Qur'anic perspective is multi-dimensional; the dimensions are critical, creative, ethical and spiritual thinking. Furthermore, according to the Qur'an, the aim of good thinking is to achieve wisdom. Hence, this paper also explicates the meaning of wisdom from the Quranic perspective.

Does the Qur'an invite us to think and use our intellectual reasoning to think?

Yes, the Qur'an invite us to think and use our intellectual reasoning to think.
To my view, qur'an requires and support critical thinking because it is another form or method which indicate that Islam relies on reasoning by oneself and not superstitions. Thinking by onself would let one have the knowledge and understand that which Allah has created. Allah himself himself mentioned thinking in various surahs in the qur'an ; Q 41:153, Q3:190 - 191.
Above are some evidences or proofs that intellectual thinking is Allowed in the qur'an. Moreso, how can one be existing without he or she thinking on his own and he/her relies on whatever he/she heard without reading and understanding it and then digest it and also think over it. We do not find any traces of evidence in the Qur'an that intellectual thinking is prohibited.

Bismillah rahmanir roheem
Am Abdulmumeen fathiu
"First the word"fikr" is a big word that Almighty Allah (swt) call all Muslims to it.All our schoolers in islam that are popular are all"ulul fikar"because if they are not thinking about how to move deen forward they won't know what to do in explaining it to all umah because we can't understand all things if there is no those haimah like imam maleek, imam shafii, abu hanifah and co.The prophet Muhammad himself that the qur'an was revealed to if he's not wise enough to think about how to explain qur'an with hadith how can we (umah) understand deen, example, the qur'an say:أقموا الصلاة then the qur'an didn't mention how many rakah we have to observe or how to observe it then the prophet through Allah think on how solah will be performed.in the qur'an (Q:59 V:20) Allah say:وتلك الأمثال نضربها للناس لعلهم يتفكرون if thinking on our own is not good qur'an won't be repeating it in various way like (Q:2 V:265) Allah say: كذالك يبين الله لكم الأيات لعلكم تتفكرون with all this I think qur'an call us to think on our own in good way.

Post  Salati_ibrahimshugaba Thu Nov 30, 2023 2:01 am

Salam alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuhu
Bismillahi-r-Rahmani-ir-Rahim
Question does the Quran invite us to think and use our intellectual reasoning to think????

Al-Quran is a book revealed by Allah to prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) as a message to the mankind , he said in surah Az-Zumar 39:41
Verily, We have sent down to you (O Muhammad SAW) the Book (this Quran) for mankind in truth..
In that case we have to know that the creation of mankind is preference over every other creations made by Allah (SWT) as he gave mankind an extreme honor and many qualities which make him more special and superior among them 17:70 Al-Israa
And indeed We have honoured the Children of Adam, and We have carried them on land and sea, and have provided them with At-Taiyibat (lawful good things), and have preferred them above many of those whom We have created with a marked preference.
Among this qualities Allah has bestowed mankind is the sense of reasoning and intellect as it is been said by many mufasirun (translators of Quran)when futher explaination was given on the previous verse .
In a nutshell the essence of sense of reasoning (al-aql) in mankind is to have the ability to reason and intellect about things surrounding him , either using it positively or negatively to contribute to his life ;socially, economically, religiously, politically, and others .
As I have said earlier the book (Al-Quran) been sent to the prophet (Muhammad)is to enlighten the mankind and guide him to the right path of the all mighty God .
14:1 Ibrahim
Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (This is) a Book which We have revealed unto you (O Muhammad SAW) in order that you might lead mankind out of darkness (of disbelief and polytheism) into light (of belief in the Oneness of Allah and Islamic Monotheism) by their Lord's Leave to the Path of the All-Mighty, the Owner of all Praise.
If that’s so ,the understanding of mankind to his book matters a lot but for him to understand it he have to use his intellectual reasoning. With my little understanding and knowledge I could say the use of intellectual reasoning is an obligation due to the prophet Muhammad command in an hadith (PBUH)
think about the creations of God(Allah)and don’t think about God’s self so you’re perished .
Thus Al-Quran is not Allah’s creation but his words,it’s one of the ways we can have a thinking about Allah’s creation this will go inline with a principle that says
What get you to an obligation is also an obligation
3:191 Aal-i-Imraan
Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): "Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.
Whereas Al-Quran itself connoted many verses implying and attesting on awakening our desires in using our intellectual reasoning .
The Quran as an Islamic legal constitution has focused and centralized his rules ,codes and principles towards the intelligent , prudent ones by using in the word يا أولي الألباب in many verses of decrees for example
5:100 Al-Maaida
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Not equal are Al-Khabith (all that is evil and bad as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.) and At-Taiyib (all that is good as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.), even though the abundance of Al-Khabith (evil) may please you." So fear Allah much [(abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)], O men of understanding in order that you may be successful.
Numerous verses in ALQURAN has been ended with negative questions implying that man-kind need to use it intellectual reasoning
Don't you understand?

Don't they ponder?

Don't you remember?

Don't you see?

This set of phrases are all synonymous which have same meaning the negativity of the questions implies that the use of the reasoning is a must and an obligation duty for everyone
Also , In the holy Quran there are verses that stated that those who have sense of reasoning and doesn’t use it are burdens
25:44 Al-Furqaan
Or do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like cattle; nay, they are even farther astray from the Path. (i.e. even worst than cattle).
With a further contemplation of the Quranic verse we can deduce out that any human being that don’t use it  reasoning organs to ponder is an animal
I’m conclusion;ALQURAN librated us on using our intellectual reasoning to have a complete understanding of the message it comprise but not otherwise
! Thus do We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, laws, etc.) in detail for the people who reflect.
But to be on the safer hand we have to be careful and cautiousness on our mode of thinking and contemplating , what to think and not to think negatively in other not have an unpleasant understanding of what the Quran comprise

Post  Jamiu Ibrahim Tanmola Thu Nov 30, 2023 11:24 am

1st Question:
Does the Quran invite us to think and use our intellectual reasoning to think?
Answer: Almighty Allah has given Muslims the opportunity to think about everything he created and use their intellectual reasoning to Gain more knowledge, there are certain verses in the Quran where Almighty Acknowledged the philosophers and the fuqaha which shows that Thinking and reasoning to acquire knowledge or seek the truth is accepted in islam

Reference 1.
Q59:21
(21) If We had sent down this Qur’ān upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and splitting from fear of Allāh. And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought.

Reference 2.
Q3:191

(191) Who remember Allāh while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

Reference 3.
Q13:3

(3) And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and rivers; and from all of the fruits He made therein two mates; He causes the night to cover the day. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.

*Allah has referred to the philosophers and the wise ones as hulul_Albal in Q1:269 which means Almighty Allah Want us to think and he appreciates and acknowledges those with intellectual reasoning

Reference.

(269) He gives wisdom[108] to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good. And none will remember except those of understanding.
[108]- The knowledge and understanding of the religion and of the Qur’ān.

Bismillahi Rahmoni Rohim
Yeah, To start with, out of the two questions, the first one goes this way. according Almighty Allah, he says, think deeply, think more on what I (Allah) created not how I created myself so as not to lead yourselves astray.

There is a Tefsir I read on how Allah used 7days to create heaven and earth, then, I saw where the cleric highlighted where Allah said he forsake (curse) those who read this Aya Nd didn’t have any thought about it.

Note; God even said it numerous place in Quran where he said why are we reading the holy book and still don’t have a sense of reason?

To summarise this all, let’s all have a sense of reasoning nd think deeply on what God created not how he created himself.
